Description
A SINGULAR TENANT
A HAWK AND DOVE MYSTERY
LONDON 1957. HE NEEDED A LODGER. HE FOUND A MYSTERY.
London, 1957. Medical student John Ransome places a modest advertisement for a lodger at his Baker Street flat, expecting little more than help with the rent. What arrives instead is Simon Harlech — tall, piercing-eyed, and possessing an unsettling ability to read a man’s life from the scuff of his shoes.
At first, Ransome suspects his new flatmate is simply eccentric. Then he begins to wonder if the man is deranged. For Harlech has not merely moved into Baker Street — he appears to be becoming someone else entirely.
What unfolds across nine extraordinary cases is a partnership unlike any other: a reluctant companion drawn into the orbit of a man of formidable, unnerving deduction, solving crimes that Scotland Yard cannot, in a city that has never quite outgrown its Victorian shadows.
A Singular Tenant is inventive, atmospheric, and thoroughly entertaining. With its 1950s London setting, wry humour, and a central relationship that deepens with every adventure, this is a book for every reader who loves a sharp mystery and an unforgettable double act.
